Green Chaplains L 1
Course Description
CURRENTLY OPEN FOR ENROLMENT FOR
OCTOBER-DECEMBER 2024
FLEXIBLE DELIVERY
The ‘Eco-Chaplain’ is a new role that addresses the need for an increase in community interactions with the natural world. A person trained in Eco-Chaplaincy focuses on offering short courses within communities to improve literacy in areas of ecological awareness, nondual ethics and values, and demonstrates how to benefit from contemplative practices for deepening awareness.
The Green Chaplains Level I course approaches the elevation of consciousness by moving from dualism toward nondual consciousness, emphasizing re-engagement with Nature and a deepening of human perceptions. A key technique in moving toward the nondual is deepening the awareness through askesis practice, including contemplative and meditative exercises. Askesis techniques are taught in close connection with practice and theory in online tutorials.
Now more than ever, as humanity approaches a deeper understanding of Human-Nature interactions, an uplifting re-orientation of awareness is developing. The Green Eco-Chaplaincy course is designed to help facilitate this inspiring change.
Studying the Green Eco-Chaplaincy Level I course is an opportunity to train in a fresh approach to both nondual ecology and nondual consciousness, with the benefit of deepening one’s own experience of nonduality.

Further Information:
Objectives
To provide new Green Eco-Chaplains with a research and practice-based Course that is grounded in the Western tradition in its approach to nonduality; and to train Green Eco-Chaplains in the twin roles of Mediator between humans and nature, and Educator in community education and online settings, thus bringing training to the community and helping people to embrace a process of re-engagement with the natural world by increasing their literacy in areas of ecology and consciousness.
Approach
The approach is through western philosophy and eco-philosophy, and contemplative practice as followed by Meister Eckhart and Simone Weil, with a deepening of ethics based on ancient Greek Socratic / Platonic philosophy as explored by Iris Murdoch, and engagement with 20th and 21st century Eco-philosophers Arne Naess, Freya Mathews and Stan Rowe.
Delivery
This course is offered via a combination of online group Zoom lectures, and written class materials which are mailed to you. Running for 8 weeks, face-to-face tuition via a weekly Zoom session and private study time together total around 12 hours study per week.
